Melgund Recreation, Arts and Culture serves as a community recreation services provider supporting the Local Services Board of Melgund and the communities of Dyment and Borups Corners in Melgund Township, Northwestern Ontario. Through recreation programming, arts and culture initiatives, community events, placemaking projects, volunteer engagement, park and greenspace enhancement, heritage programming, and community development activities, the organization helps strengthen quality of life for residents while supporting vibrant, connected rural communities. Working in partnership with local organizations, volunteers, artists, and community leaders, Melgund Recreation, Arts and Culture contributes to the development of accessible recreation opportunities, cultural experiences, community celebrations, public spaces, and tourism initiatives that benefit residents and visitors throughout Melgund Township and Northwestern Ontario.

Canada Day Festival at Dyment Recreation Hall Features Silent Auction, Live Music and Family Fun

Canada Day in Melgund Township wouldn’t be complete without a visit to the annual Canada Day Festival Silent Auction at the Dyment Recreation Hall and Park. Running from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, the auction has become one of the largest community silent auctions in Northwestern Ontario, drawing visitors from across the region to browse, bid, and support a local tradition.

Make a day of it by enjoying live performances from Gerry and Tanya McArthur and Walter and Friends while sharing a meal with family and friends. The Cookshack will be serving festival favourites including burgers, hot dogs, smokies, and refreshments, while the kids’ lemonade stand offers another reason to stop by. Door prizes and a welcoming community atmosphere make the afternoon enjoyable for all ages.

Whether you’re searching for a unique auction find, listening to live music, or simply looking for a great way to celebrate Canada Day in Northwestern Ontario, you’ll find it in Dyment. Every visit helps support this volunteer-driven community event and keeps one of Melgund Township’s favourite annual traditions thriving for another year.

Join us for the monthly Community Brunch at the Dyment Recreation Hall in Melgund Township, Northwestern Ontario, taking place on Saturday, June 20th from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. This welcoming community breakfast and brunch event is held on the third Saturday of every month and brings together residents of all ages for a warm, casual gathering. Melgund Recreation, Arts and Culture is a community-based organization operating in Northwestern Ontario that works in direct coordination with the Local Services Board of Melgund to plan, deliver, and sustain recreation programming and public space activation across Dyment, Borups Corners, and the surrounding area. The organization supports the day-to-day function and long-term use of shared community facilities, including the Dyment Recreation Hall and its surrounding grounds, by organizing events, maintaining active programming schedules, and mobilizing volunteers to ensure these spaces remain accessible and in regular use. Its work includes the development of seasonal recreation programs, community events, arts and cultural initiatives, and hands-on projects such as park improvements, gardening, and site activation. By aligning programming with local capacity and available infrastructure, Melgund Recreation, Arts and Culture provides practical support to the Local Services Board, helping meet recreation service expectations while strengthening community participation. The result is a consistent, locally driven approach to recreation in a rural Northwestern Ontario setting, where residents are directly involved in shaping, maintaining, and using the spaces and programs that serve them.
