Residents and community organizations worked side by side to prepare Dyment Park for another season of outdoor activities.
Placemaking, teamwork, and community connections were at the heart of a fun-filled day at Dyment Park.
It takes more than tents to create great community spaces. It takes people.
This past weekend, the Local Services Board of Melgund and its Recreation Committee brought together volunteers, community organizations, and residents for a tremendously fun day of teamwork and placemaking as event tents were raised at Dyment Park in preparation for a busy summer season of recreation and outdoor activities.
What might seem like a simple task quickly became a celebration of community spirit. Volunteers spent the morning connecting pipes and people as they assembled the structures that will provide welcoming gathering spaces for festivals, live music, markets, celebrations, and opportunities for neighbours and visitors to come together throughout the summer.
Working side by side, community members demonstrated the power of volunteerism and cooperation. The project highlighted how recreation is built not only through facilities and infrastructure, but through the relationships and shared experiences that strengthen communities and create a sense of place.
The Local Services Board of Melgund extends its sincere appreciation to community partners Melgund Recreation, Arts and Culture and Art Borups Corners for their continued support and commitment to building vibrant and welcoming spaces. A special thank you also goes out to the many volunteers and community members who came out to lend a hand and make the day such a success.
As the work wrapped up, everyone gathered to enjoy a terrific barbecue featuring burgers, hot dogs, refreshments, and plenty of laughter. The meal provided a chance to relax, share stories, and celebrate another successful community project.
Days like these are about much more than putting up tents. They are about investing in placemaking, supporting outdoor recreation, strengthening community connections, and ensuring that Dyment Park continues to be a place where people gather, celebrate, and create lasting memories.
Thanks to everyone who helped make the day possible. Through teamwork and volunteerism, the community has once again built something that will benefit residents and visitors all summer long.
