A Look Back at the March Open Mic

If you were passing through Melgund this past Saturday afternoon, the sound drifting out of the Dyment Recreation Hall likely would have made you pull over. The March 21 Open Mic was a resounding success, proving once again that Northwestern Ontario has a heartbeat made of music and community.

Organized by the Local Services Board of Melgund and Melgund Recreation, Arts and Culture, the event turned a standard Saturday into a vibrant celebration of local talent. Whether you were there to perform or just to soak in the atmosphere, it was hard to leave without a smile.

A Stage for Everyone

What makes the Melgund Open Mic so special isn’t just the quality of the music—though there was plenty of that—it’s the inclusivity. We saw a beautiful range of performances this month, from seasoned guitarists who have been playing for decades to younger folks finding their voice.

The Dyment Recreation Hall provides more than just acoustics; it provides a safe, welcoming space for neighbors to connect. In small towns like ours, these gatherings are the glue that keeps the community tight-knit. It’s about more than just a melody; it’s about the conversations during the breaks and the shared appreciation for the arts.

Local Support, Local Sound

We owe a huge thank you to the organizers. The efforts of the Local Services Board and the Recreation, Arts and Culture committee ensure that our township remains a hub for creativity. By providing a consistent platform for local area musicians, they are fostering a culture where the arts can truly thrive right here at home.

The energy in the room on March 21 was a testament to that hard work. From the first song at 1:00 PM to the wrap-up at 4:00 PM, the hall felt like one big living room filled with friends.

Join the Tradition: Third Saturday of the Month

If you’re feeling a bit of FOMO (Fear Of Missing Out) after hearing how great this session was, don’t worry! This isn’t a one-time deal. The Melgund Open Mic is a monthly tradition designed to keep our community connected.

  • When: Every third Saturday of the month.
  • Time: 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM.
  • Where: Dyment Recreation Hall, Melgund Township.
  • Who: Everyone! Musicians, poets, storytellers, and fans are all welcome.

Whether you want to share a song or just tap your toes in the back row, we’d love to see you there. It’s the perfect way to spend a Northwestern Ontario afternoon.
