Recreation Committee Update
Volunteers from Art Borups Corners and Melgund Recreation, Arts and Culture joined local residents to revitalize the Dyment Recreation Hall park and greenspace through a weekend of hands-on community work. Participants planted flowers, improved garden beds, prepared trees for planting, and installed hanging planters across the recreation complex, contributing to a broader effort to restore the area’s historic gardens and welcoming atmosphere.
The initiative, described as both a community cleanup and a living public art project, brought together artists, families, and gardening enthusiasts to collaboratively transform the shared outdoor space. Supported by the Local Services Board of Melgund Recreation Committee and community partners, the project focused not only on beautification but also on strengthening the recreation complex as a functional and inviting hub for gatherings and events.
This ongoing revitalization effort is helping prepare the grounds for upcoming community activities, including the annual Canada Day Festival on July 1, which will feature food, live music, and a marketplace of artists and vendors from across Northwestern Ontario. Organizers emphasized that projects like this rely on volunteer dedication, with each improvement contributing to a stronger, more vibrant community space for residents and visitors alike.
Visit the melgundrecreation.ca website for more information.
