Every filled bed represents time, effort and people willing to pitch in. Thanks to everyone who helped make this expanded growing space a reality. The expansion gives us more space to grow together when spring returns. For now, we can take a moment to appreciate how far the garden has come.
The final outdoor work is wrapping up, leaving the expanded garden ready for a fresh growing season next year.
After a full summer of work, the community garden expansion at Dyment Recreation Hall and Park is ready for winter. As the days grow shorter and the seasons change, we’re pleased to see the new garden space taking shape, with the groundwork now in place for another season of community growing next spring.
Building the expansion has involved plenty of effort along the way. From putting together the garden boxes and planters to hauling in soil and filling each bed with compostable materials and growing soil, volunteers and supporters have helped bring the project to this point. The garden beds are now filled and ready for planting when warmer weather returns.
The expanded garden gives our community more space to grow crops, work alongside one another and take part in local food production. It’s satisfying to see months of planning and physical work come together in a space that will continue to serve the community in the years ahead. We’re proud of everyone who contributed their time and energy to making it happen.
We’d like to thank the Ontario Trillium Foundation’s Capital Grants Program, Melgund Recreation, Arts and Culture, the Art Borups Corners Living Lab and the Nuclear Waste Management Organization for helping make this expansion possible. Their support, combined with the hard work of local volunteers, has helped create a stronger foundation for community gardening and shared activities at the Dyment Recreation Hall and Park greenspace.
We look forward to seeing the beds filled with new crops when the growing season returns.
