A little more room for fresh ideas, shared experiences and time outdoors. The garden adds a wonderful new dimension to the park, with plenty of possibilities waiting for the warmer months ahead.
A busy season of community work wraps up with new garden boxes, planters and expanded opportunities for recreation and food security.
As the season winds down and winter approaches, the community garden expansion at the Dyment Recreation Hall and Park is complete. After a busy season of assembling garden boxes, filling planters and preparing the grounds, the expanded garden is ready for its next growing season.
The new garden boxes and planters will support community gardening, recreational activities and local food security programming. From growing fresh food to preparing community breakfasts and supporting local food production, the expanded space creates more opportunities for residents to take part in activities that bring people together.
The work completed this season is about more than gardening. Investments in community infrastructure help make recreation, arts, food production and outdoor activities more accessible, supporting healthy and active living throughout the community. The improvements also build on the park’s existing greenspace, creating an inviting place for people to spend time together and participate in community life.
With the garden expansion now finished, there is plenty to celebrate. The park looks beautiful, and the completed work reflects the time, care and effort that went into bringing the project together. It has taken a great deal of work by dedicated volunteers and community partners to get everything in place, and we are pleased to see the results ready for the seasons ahead.
Melgund Recreation, Arts and Culture, Art Borups Corners, the Nuclear Waste Management Organization, the Local Services Board of Melgund and the Ontario Trillium Foundation Capital Grants program were instrumental in supporting the incredible work that took place this season. Their contributions have helped strengthen the community’s spaces and resources for recreation, gardening and food security.
Now, as the garden settles in for winter, attention is already turning to spring. The community is looking forward to seeing the new beds and planters come to life, with fresh crops, new growth and more opportunities for people to get involved.
For now, the garden expansion is complete, the park is looking its best, and a busy season of community work has come together in a finished space ready to grow.
