The Local Services Board of Melgund met on Monday, January 19, 2026 at 7:00 p.m. at the Community Hall.

Call to Order
- Meeting called to order at 7:00 p.m. by Chairperson Pat Daignault
- Motion to approve the minutes of Monday, December 15, 2025, was moved by Sean and seconded by Pat

Correspondence
- IAAC (Impact Assessment Agency of Canada): Invitation for the LSB to participate in the integrated Impact Assessment process for the Deep Geological Repository (DGR) for Canada’s Used Nuclear Fuel. Jamie Bell is coordinating the response. The document is approximately 1,200 pages. Two Impact Assessment Gatherings are scheduled:
• Wednesday, January 21, 2026, 6:30–8:30 p.m.
• Saturday, January 24, 2026, 10:00 a.m.–12:00 noon - NWMO: Invitation for an LSB board member or community designate to join the Human Environment (People) Regulatory Working Group (2026–2028). Norm Eady has agreed to serve. Confirmation to be submitted by January 20, 2026.
- NWMO (Daila Delescaille): Notice of 2026 Environmental Field Work. The board requested a presentation from Daila on planned field studies, testing, and sampling. A letter of invitation will be sent.
Business Arising from Previous Minutes
- Games Night was well attended, including a card game brought by a resident. The next Games Night will be Wednesday, February 4, 2026, 4:00–7:00 p.m.
- Community Christmas Supper was well attended. Thanks extended to all cooks and participants who contributed food and desserts.
New Business
- By-Law 01-2026: Approval of new GoDaddy website hosting plan, resulting in savings of over $400. The new site is live at dymentcommunity.com.
- By-Law 02-2026: Formation of the Recreation Committee. Several community members have volunteered to participate.
- By-Law 03-2026: Board resolution for Impact Assessment funding, authorizing the Chairperson as the signing authority for the application.
- Ontario Seniors Grant program has been applied for.
- Alterna Savings credit card application corrected and resubmitted.
- Thanks to Jamie Bell for:
• Re-doing the Dyment Community website, transferring all old information and photos, and adding new content
• Preparing and submitting the Ontario Seniors Grant application
• Coordinating the Recreation Committee formation
• Managing the IAAC submission and upcoming gatherings - The LSB presented Jamie Bell with an honorarium for his dedication and work on community projects.
- Family Day: Scheduled for Sunday, February 15, 2026, 3:00–7:00 p.m., including Open Mic, bonfire, fireworks, hot dogs, smokies, s’mores, chips, coffee, tea, pop, and water. Karen Daignault will oversee the kitchen and supplies.
- Submission of planned activities for the year to NWMO required by the end of January to secure a 30% donation of expenses (last year received $5,000). A breakfast will be planned next month.
- Board authorized the purchase of:
• Cork message board
• Easel with paper pad
• Marker board with markers
